What is mystery shopping?
Our company sends ordinary people into our clients businesses to evaluate their performance.
Assume a franchise of your favorite fast food chain is short-changing customers. The company may hire you to visit that outlet as an ordinary customer, and you report your findings to the company. These interactions are subsequently evaluated, scored and reported to the company.
Retail stores, car companies, airlines . . . almost every organization that deals with customers needs such feedback. And now, mystery shoppers are fast becoming the corporate world's eyes and ears, and help organizations firm up their internal audit processes.
The job
As a mystery shopper, you will have to know the company's service standards thoroughly, and figure out exactly where the sales/ service requirements fall short. Service quality, staff behavior, efficiency, value for money, decor, hygiene, customer comfort... these are just some of the things you should be looking at. You then have to record your observations, analyze them, and file a detailed report to the client.
It's work, but it's generally enjoyable, diverting and paid.
The skills
The skills desired in a mystery shopper are dependent on the objectives of the exercise, nature of business, product and customer profiles. Since the job involves data gathering, evaluation and report writing, a combination of these skills is important.
You need to have an eye for detail, a strong memory and good presentation skills.
The money
You will work on a free-lance base. Payments are made 30 days after performing the job.
You will be paid a fee per evaluation. This fee varies from project to project.
You won’t be able to make a living from this, consider it as an extra job.
